José Maya (Madrid, 1983) es uno de los bailaores más singulares y poderosos del flamenco actual. Nacido en el seno de una familia gitana con una rica tradición artística—entre sus ilustres antepasados figuran la bailaora Fernanda Romero, el cantaor Rafael Romero, el Gallina, el pintor Antonio Maya y el cantaor Gabriel Moreno. Comenzó a bailar con apenas nueve años, compartiendo escenario con Antonio Canales y Enrique Morente, y se integró en compañías como las del Güito y Manolete. Premiado desde muy joven —entre otros, con la Copa Pavón y el Certamen de Coreografía del Teatro Albéniz—, ha trabajado con Tomatito, Vicente Amigo, Estrella Morente, Farruquito o Arcángel. Su estilo visceral y profundamente expresivo combina técnica y raíz, y ha brillado en espectáculos como Al Natural, Latente, Maya o Liturgia, presentados en Europa y América; actualmente inmerso en el espectáculo Color sin nombre, inspirada en el legado pictórico de Mark Rothko.
